The Wabana Backpack is the perfect everyday bag.  With two exterior zipper pockets and three interior slip pockets, this backpack has a place for all of your essentials.  The bag closes with a drawstring and also has a flap for added security.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate

This is a measure-and-cut pattern. All pattern measurements are in inches (imperial).  The pattern includes printable templates for the flap.  

Finished Dimensions: 10" wide, 5" deep, approximately 14" tall (will vary, depending on how full the bag is)

Mini Dimensions: 8" wide, 4" deep, approximately 10.5" tall

Bag Features

Fabric Requirements

FABRIC

Exterior Fabric: 0.5 yards of cotton-linen blend (based on 44” wide) OR a piece of waxed canvas 25” tall by 18” wide.

Accent Fabric (flap and bag bottom): a piece of waxed canvas or faux leather 23” tall by 18” wide.

Lining Fabric: 1.25 yards of quilting cotton or cotton-linen blend (based on 44” wide).

INTERFACING

· 2.5 yards (based on 20” wide) medium-weight fusible woven interfacing such as Pellon SF-101 for quilting cotton or cotton-linen blends.

· A 16” by 20”  piece of fusible fleece such as Pellon Thermolam Plus if using cotton-linen blend for exterior, or faux leather for the flap (not applicable for waxed canvas).

· A 16” by 20” piece of foam stabilizer such as Soft and Stable by Annie’s, or Bosal In-R-Form Stabilizer.

Notions & Hardware

WEBBING

· 1 yard of 1” wide cotton or polyester webbing

· 2.5 yards of 1.5” wide cotton or polyester webbing

ZIPPERS

16” of size #5 vinyl zippers by the yard and 2 zipper pulls.

HARDWARE

· (2) 1.5” strap adjusters

· (2) 1.5” rectangle rings

· (1) 1” strap adjuster

· (1) 1” swivel hook*

· (1) 1” d-ring*

*OR (1) 1” side-release buckle (some side-release buckles have a built-in adjuster)

· (3) small double cap rivets (6mm post)

Tools & Supplies

Cutting mat, rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, fabric scissors, pinking shears, wonder clips, pins, iron, point turner, seam ripper.

Size 90-14 or 100-16 (denim) needle, and matching thread

Double cap rivet setter and anvil.

Hammer or mallet

1/8” drive punch or rotary punch for making holes in your fabric.
